Abstract

Hemangiomas are the most frequent cutaneous vascular tumors in childhood, however, some with less frequent presentation in the adult stage have been evidenced. There are few data in the literature on the frequency of these hemangiomas, their clinical presentation and histopathological characteristics. A 28-year-old patient, who from birth presented a lesion in the form of a single flat spot, erythematous, with defined edges, bright red in the left posterior thoracic region that became more evident in adolescence, and of exponential growth in the latter 6 years, with ulcerations and bleeding on multiple occasions. She was admitted to the emergency department with stigmas of bleeding, signs of infection and with pain that made certain movements impossible. She was treated with pain therapy, broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy and transfusion of erythrocyte concentrates. He underwent surgery for total resection of a giant hemangioma of approximately 30cm with 70% vascularization of the lower bronchial vessels and some from the ipsilateral thyrocervical trunk. Histopathological diagnosis: targetoid hemosiderin hemangioma.
